ISRAEL TO RUSSIA: ASSAD’S SAFE FROM US, BUT IRAN MUST QUIT SYRIA:By: Sherri Barna

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu told Russia on Wed. 11 July 2018 that its ally Syrian President Bashar al-Assad would be safe from Israel, but Moscow must ensure that Iranian forces quit Syria, a senior Israeli official said. The message, which the official said Netanyahu conveyed in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, came just hours after Israel shot down a Syrian drone that had penetrated its airspace, underscoring the frontier's volatility. Israel has been on high alert as Assad's forces advance on rebels in the vicinity of the Golan Heights, much of which Israel captured from Syria in 1967. Israel worries Assad could let his Iranian and Hezbollah reinforcements entrench near Israeli lines or that Syrian forces may defy a 1974 Golan demilitarization. "They (Russia) have an active interest in seeing a stable Assad regime and we in getting the Iranians out. These can clash or it can align," the Israeli official said. Israel’s willingness to leave Assad in power echoes the USA position. (Ynet) [Comment]

DANON TO UN: ‘CONDEMN UAV INCIDENT’: By: Sherri Barna

Israel's Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, on Wed. 11 July 2018 called on the Security Council to condemn the infiltration of Israeli airspace by an unmanned aerial vehicle launched from Syria. "Earlier today, an unmanned aerial vehicle was launched from Syria into Israel, penetrating 9.6 kilometers into Israeli airspace and threatening the safety and security of Israel’s northern cities and towns. Thankfully, the Israel Defense Forces intercepted the UAV, preventing the possibility of a more serious security incident,” Danon wrote to the Council. He noted that Wednesday’sincident comes during a time of heightened tensions on Israel’s border with Syria. "We have repeatedly warned the Security Council of the destabilizing activities taking place in Syria and the threats they pose to Israel and the Middle East. I urge the Security Council to condemn this dangerous act that not only threatens Israel, but the stability of the entire region,” Danon concluded. The UAV was intercepted by an Israeli Patriot missile. The launch of the missile caused sirens to sound in communities in the Golan Heights and the Jordan Valley. (INN) Urgent prayer is needed for the safety and protection of Israel’s northern region. Threats include spill over from Syria’s violent civil war and a significant Iranian presence in that country; additionally the possibility of a serious earthquake after a series of small quakes in the past week. Residents in the Tiberias area have reported being nervous about going to bed at night and not knowing if explosive noises they are hearing are due to earthquakes or related to missiles and military activities. The IDF targeted three military posts in Syria overnight Wed, 11 July 2018, in response to the infiltration of the Syrian UAV that was intercepted by the IDF earlier in the day. "The IDF will continue to operate determinedly and decisively against any attempt to breach Israeli sovereignty and will act against any attempt to hurt its civilians,” said the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit. "The IDF holds the Syrian regime accountable for the actions carried out in its territory and warns it from further action against Israeli forces." Our forces carried out a number of defensive actions to prevent friction, and once they met the optimal conditions, we intercepted and destroyed it," said Manelis. (Arutz-7) [Comment]

ISRAELI RESEARCHERS EXPERIMENTING WITH LATE-STAGE CANCER CURE: By: Sherri Barna

Israeli scientists are experimenting with immunotherapy, which manipulates one's immune system to identify, fight and destroy cancer cells. While immunotherapy has been around for decades, new advances in the field coupled with recent drug approvals from the USA Food & Drug Administration have intensified interest in immunotherapy and its applications for cancer treatment, especially late-stage cancers that resist conventional treatments. Immunotherapy drugs already are helping patients with melanoma, lung, stomach, liver and bladder cancers, as well as some blood cancers. "Recent developments in immunotherapy have ushered in a medical revolution, representing a real paradigm shift in cancer treatment,” said Dr. Mark Israel, national executive director of the Israel Cancer Research Fund. "Cancer immunotherapy is exciting because, as opposed to other forms of therapy, it engages the body’s own highly sensitive system for detecting cancer cells and destroying them,” Israel said. Dr. Nathan Karin, an Israeli immunologist and his team are studying whether the cellular mechanisms driving autoimmune diseases like Type 1 diabetes and multiple sclerosis can be utilized to create immunotherapy drugs to fight cancer. They are researching the interplay between two types of cells vital to the immune system: regulatory T cells and effector T cells. By suppressing effector T cells, they impede the immune system’s ability to fight cancer. "We believe that if you amplify regulatory T cells you can treat autoimmune disease, and if you block their activity you can thwart cancer,” Karin said. (INN) Intercede for cancer cures at all stages of its development to be soon discovered and put into use. [Comment]

ISRAEL WORLD’S EIGHTH MOST POWERFUL NATION: By: Sherri Barna

A prestigious USA-based magazine said that Israel is the eighth most powerful nation in the world, ahead of international heavyweights such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Canada, and Singapore. "Israel, the only Jewish nation in the world, is a small country on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. For its relatively small size, the country has played a large role in global affairs. The country has a strong economy and landmarks of significance to several religions," wrote the USA News and World Report's annual ranking of 'Best Countries'. "Israel has a technologically advanced market economy with cut diamonds, high-technology equipment and pharmaceuticals among its major exports. The country is very highly developed in terms of life expectancy, education, per capita income and other human development index indicators." Following Israel was Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and South Korea. Topping the list was the United States, Russia, and China." (Arutz-7) [Comment]

ANTI-ISRAEL CHURCHES HAVE A NEW FAVORITE JEW: By: Sherri Barna

Last month, CMEP held a conference, at a church in Washington DC, to train women how to harass Israel. The badly misnamed organization "Churches for Middle East Peace” said of itself before the seminar: "This week, CMEP is holding a conference, at a church in Washington DC, to train women how to harass Israel. The official theme is "And Still We Rise: Transforming USA Policy Toward a Just Middle East”. By which they mean transforming it from pro-Israel to anti-Israel. Two days of speakers and discussions were followed by a day in which the delegates lobbied members of Congress to stop being so sympathetic to Israel. Two of the speakers at the Washington conference were women who proclaim that they are Jews who have embraced Christianity. Unfortunately, according to the seminar brochure, after the conference, "the Middle East delegates will share about their peace-building work on speaking tours around the United States.” Conservative and evangelical churches in the United States remain overwhelmingly pro-Israel. Still, there is good reason to be concerned that some liberal Christians, such as those affiliated with Churches for Middle East Peace and the Presbyterian Church USA, have become among the most vocal denouncers of Israel on today’s scene. (INN) Intercede that Christians and Jews participating in anti-Israel activities will be set free from unbalanced information and spiritual deception. Pray that their intents to influence members of Congress and other government official will fall flat. [Comment]

NEW YORK PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO OFFER KOSHER LUNCHES: By: Sherri Barna

New York City will begin a $1 million pilot program to provide kosher and halal school lunches to students in all New York City schools. Currently, approximately 38% of the NYC's 1.1 million public school students are either Jewish or Muslim. USA Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens, N.Y.) said, "I have long called for halal and kosher meals to be made available in New York City schools. I’m pleased that Jewish and Muslim students will finally have lunch options that adhere to their dietary restrictions. Students should feel welcomed at their schools, and including different dietary options is a critical element to ensuring that no one goes hungry." (Arutz-7) [Comment]

HEZBOLLAH PULLING BACK FROM ISRAEL- SYRIAN BORDER: By: Sherri Barna

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, citing what it described as "reliable sources," said that terrorist group Hezbollah and its allied gunmen have begun withdrawing to positions 40 km. (25 miles) away from the Israeli border, and a similar distance from the Jordanian-Syrian border. The redeployment comes in response to a request from Russia, but Iran is refusing to do the same with its forces in the area. The report said Iran is refusing to pull back its own military forces from southern Syria unless there is a corresponding evacuation of USA and international coalition forces from the al-Tanf base on the Syrian-Iraqi border. ISRAEL REDUCING ITS PARTICIPATION IN UNHRC: By: Sherri Barna

Israel has temporarily reduced its participation with the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) after the United States pulled out over the Council’s anti-Israel bias, media source reported Friday 22 June 2018. Several diplomats in Geneva, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Israel had "lowered" its participation at the council to align its stance more with the USA position. Israel is not one of the council's 47 member states, but has participated like most other countries as an observer. Ambassador Nikki Haley, in a joint press conference with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, formally announced earlier this month that the United States is withdrawing from the UNHRC, which she described as "a protector of human rights abusers, and a cesspool of political bias”. Haley pointed out the Council’s blatant anti-Israel bias. "We are withdrawing from the UNHRC, an organization that is not worthy of its name,” said Haley. Israel welcomed the USA decision, with PM Binyamin Netanyahu calling the UNHRC a "biased, hostile, anti-Israel organization." (INN) Intercede that UN anti-Israel bias will be confronted and overcome in all UN branches, especially the UNHRC. Pray that strong voices like that of USA Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley and Israel's Permanent Representative to the UN Danny Danon will be multiplied on the behalf of the Jewish state in this highly anti-Israel world organization.
